This page covers the Mosspatch website, the Mosspatch beta and the Mosspatch iPhone app.

In short

  • This website sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device.
  • We never sell your data, and there are no ads.
  • The AI only sees the task you ask it about, and only after you've said yes. It isn't used to train AI models.
  • You can delete your account, and everything in it, from inside the app.

Who we are

Mosspatch is run by Billy Knowles, a sole trader in the UK trading as Mosspatch ("we"). We decide how your information is used, which makes us the data controller. Write to support@mosspatch.co.uk about anything on this page.

The website

The site doesn't use cookies, local storage or anything else that saves information on your device. That's why it has no cookie banner.

Cloudflare hosts the site. Like any web host, it handles your IP address and browser details to deliver pages and block attacks.

We're about to start counting visits with PostHog, set up so it stores nothing on your device. PostHog will use your IP address and browser details to tell one visit from another on the same day, and keeps the data in Frankfurt, Germany. We'll do this because we have a legitimate interest in knowing which pages work. You can object by emailing us.

If you join the beta

The beta form opens soon. It will ask for:

  • your email address
  • your first name, if you want to give it
  • where you heard about Mosspatch
  • confirmation that you have an iPhone

We'll also note any campaign tag in the link you followed (such as "reddit"), so we know where people find us. Cloudflare Turnstile will check that a person filled in the form. To stop the form being flooded, we keep a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address and delete it within a day.

We use your email to invite you to test the app. Invites go through Apple's TestFlight, so we give your email to Apple when we add you as a tester, and Apple sends the invitation. We keep beta signups until three months after the app launches on the App Store, then delete them. Ask us and we'll delete yours sooner.

If you use the app

Your account

When you first open the app it makes a guest account with a random ID. There's no email or password. If you choose Sign in with Apple, Apple gives us an identifier and an email address, which may be a private relay address that forwards to you. We use it so your patch comes with you to a new phone.

What you put in

The app stores what you add so it's there when you come back: your tasks and their steps, routines, plans, the times you start things, your patch, your answers during setup, and settings like your wake time, plan hour and time zone.

What you write about your tasks can say a lot about your life and your health. We treat it as sensitive, use it only to run the app, and never use it for advertising.

The AI buttons

Break it down and Help, I'm stuck use AI from Anthropic. The first time you tap either one, the app asks whether that's OK. When you use them, we send Anthropic the text of that one task or step and nothing else from your account. Anthropic uses it to suggest steps and doesn't use it to train its models. It stores the text in the United States, may process it in other countries, and normally deletes it within 30 days. If you say no, everything else still works, including typing your own steps.

If you speak instead of typing, your iPhone turns speech into text using Apple's speech recognition. We never receive or store the recording.

How we learn what's working

The app records events like "a start began" or "a plan was made", with numbers such as how many minutes. It never records the words you type. We keep these events and send them to PostHog in the EU so we can see which parts of the app help. You can turn this off in the app's settings.

Payments

You pay through Apple. RevenueCat tells the app what you've bought, using an app ID and Apple's purchase records. We never see your card details.

Notifications

Reminders are set on your phone by the app. We don't send push messages from a server during the beta.

Who else handles your information

We use a small number of suppliers. Each one handles information only to do its part:

  • Supabase: the app's database and sign-in, in Ireland.
  • Anthropic: the AI buttons. United States, and possibly other countries while handling a request.
  • PostHog: counting visits and app events, in Frankfurt, Germany.
  • Apple: the App Store, TestFlight, Sign in with Apple, payments and speech recognition.
  • RevenueCat: keeping track of purchases, in the United States.
  • Cloudflare: hosting this site and the bot check on the beta form.

When a supplier handles your information outside the UK, we rely on UK adequacy rules or the UK's standard contract terms with that supplier to protect it.

Why we're allowed to use it

  • To run the app you asked for: your account and everything you put in (contract).
  • To keep things working and safe: visit counts, app events and security logs (legitimate interests). You can object.
  • The AI buttons: only with your consent, which you can withdraw in the app's settings.
  • The beta: because you asked to join (consent). You can withdraw by emailing us.

You don't have to give us anything to read this site. To use the app or join the beta, we need the information described above. We don't make automated decisions about you that have legal or similar effects.

How long we keep it

  • Your account: while you use it. Delete your account in the app and we delete everything in it, including its app events.
  • Guest accounts: if a guest account (one not linked to Sign in with Apple) isn't opened for 120 days, we delete it.
  • Beta signups: until three months after launch, or sooner if you ask.
  • Hashed IP addresses from the beta form: under a day.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • give you a copy of what we hold about you
  • correct anything that's wrong
  • delete it
  • limit how we use it, or object to it
  • give it to you in a form you can take elsewhere

Email support@mosspatch.co.uk. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Age

Mosspatch is for adults. You need to be 18 or over to use the app or join the beta.

Changes to this page

If we change how we use your information, we'll update this page and change the date at the top. If the change is a big one, we'll tell you in the app first.
